Safe Storage Of Propylene Glycol

 Flammable liquids. It has hygroscopicity and does not corrode metals. It reacts with dibasic acid to form polyester, with nitric acid to form nitrate, and with hydrochloric acid to form chlorohydrin. It is heated with dilute sulfuric acid and converted to propanal at 170 C. Hydroxyacetic acid, oxalic acid and acetic acid are produced by oxidation of nitric acid or chromic acid. It reacts with aldehydes to form acetals. 1,2-propanediol is dehydrated to produce propylene oxide or polyethylene glycol.

 Toxicity and irritation are very small, so far no victims have been found. LD507000-8000mg/kg was injected intravenously and intraperitoneally in rats, and LD502800mg/kg was injected orally. But there have also been reports of fatal risks of sleeping and kidney disorders when added to foods and drinks in excessive amounts at one time.

 Safe operation measures: Do not inhale or touch this product. It can only be used in air circulation. Wash thoroughly with water after handling or using.

Safe Storage Conditions: Although this product will not spontaneously ignite, but is a combustible. Long-term storage does not deteriorate, but the opening absorbs moisture. Storage and transportation containers should be made of galvanized iron barrels, aluminium or stainless steel. Storage and transportation in accordance with general regulations for low toxic chemicals. Avoid contact with water and damp environment. Storage tanks must be kept clean, dry and rustless. It must be stored in places with embankments, air circulation, and no exposure to sunlight, open fires and other heat sources. Nitrogen seal is recommended for large storage tanks (capacity is 100 m3 or more). Keep the container airtight.
